Pediatric restorative dentistry may be needed when a child’s tooth has a cavity, fracture, or other damage. The right treatment depends on much more than simply the size of the cavity. Dr. Carroll considers the tooth involved, the amount of healthy structure remaining, the child’s age, symptoms, development, and how long the tooth needs to remain in the mouth.
Where a filling is appropriate, Dr. Carroll uses tooth-colored restorative materials and has historically selected BPA-free, biocompatible options for her pediatric patients.
Some early cavities may be candidates for preventive or minimally invasive approaches such as fluoride or SDF. Larger cavities may require a filling or crown.
Comfort and safety
Care your child can tolerate safely
Dr. Carroll’s treatment planning also considers the child’s ability to tolerate care safely. Behavior guidance, desensitization, the sensory environment, and – when genuinely necessary – anesthesia with a board-certified anesthesiologist may all be part of the plan.
Parents should understand why treatment is being recommended and what reasonable alternatives exist. Dr. Carroll’s approach is to treat what needs treatment, not to sell dentistry.
