Pediatric dental X-rays allow Dr. Carroll to see areas that cannot be evaluated completely during a visual examination, including cavities between teeth and the position or development of teeth below the gums.

Dr. Carroll follows ALARA principles – ‘as low as reasonably achievable’ – when deciding when dental X-rays are needed. The goal is to obtain the diagnostic information necessary for good care while avoiding unnecessary exposure.

Timing

Based on your child

The type and timing of images depend on the child’s age, cavity risk, symptoms, dental history, stage of development, and what Dr. Carroll sees during the exam. X-rays are not taken simply because a child reaches a particular birthday.

Digital imaging

See what Dr. Carroll sees

Digital imaging allows the images to be viewed immediately so Dr. Carroll can show parents what she is seeing and explain why treatment or monitoring may be recommended.
